BISHKEK, October 4 (RIA Novosti) - Drugs worth some $470,000 were seized in Kyrgyzstan during an international operation to stop an Afghan drugs trafficking channel, the country's anti-drugs authorities said Thursday.

The press service of the Drug Control Agency said the drugs were found on a 41-year-old Tajik national when he arrived in the southern Kyrgyz city of Osh Wednesday.

The detained person was carrying 55 kilograms of opium, or around 164,000 doses. He was part of a criminal group trafficking Afghan-produced drugs from neighboring Tajikistan through Kyrgyzstan to other former Soviet republics, including Russia.

The operation was organized by Kyrgyz and Tajik law enforcement bodies.
