MOSCOW, September 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russian and Indian airborne troops will begin on Sunday the active phase of INDRA-2007 joint counter-terrorism exercises in northwest Russia's Pskov Region.

Colonel Alexander Cherednik, a spokesman for the Russian Airborne Troops, said the active phase, set to run until September 18, would start with an airborne assault.

Over 160 Indian Airborne Troops arrived in the Pskov Region on September 11 for the drills. Russia and India have held the exercises every two years since 2003. The last drills were held in the western deserts of India.

INDRA-2007, which will focus on the detection and elimination of armed terrorist groups, will end on September 20.

Russia's military cooperation with India goes back nearly half a century, and the Asian country accounts for about 40% of Russian arms exports.
