MOSCOW, August 29 (RIA Novosti) - Russian prosecutors said Wednesday they were studying Colombia's request to extradite an Israeli citizen convicted in absentia of training paramilitaries in Colombia and captured at a Moscow airport.

"The General Prosecutor's Office of Russia has received a request from Colombian authorities to detain and extradite, on a reciprocal basis, Israeli citizen Yair Gal Klein. Currently, the citizen is undergoing an extradition check," Russian prosecutors said, adding that the Israeli had been captured at Moscow's Domodedovo airport Monday.

Yair Klein, a former Israeli Army officer, was sentenced by a Colombian judge to 10 years in prison for his role in training paramilitaries for drug cartels in the Andean country in the late 1980s.

In August 2007, Russian police received information that Klein might attempt to travel to Moscow. He was detained when he arrived at Domodedovo airport Monday.

According to Russia's Interior Ministry, Klein changed his passport data to get through passport control in many countries without difficulty.
