BAKU, August 28 (RIA Novosti) - The bodies of three people have been pulled from the rubble of an 11-story building under construction that collapsed in Azerbaijan's capital, Baku. Nine people have been rescued, a police spokesman said.
Police believe at least 26 people are still beneath the debris, while builders said as many as 60 people might still be trapped.
The site has been cordoned off, and rescue operations are underway. Additional rescue teams have been called and are on the way.
Eyewitnesses said 10 of the 11 floors of the building, which was nearing completion, collapsed without warning.
Preliminary reports said the cause of the collapse might have been a violation of safety rules at the building site.
