Iran's Foreign Ministry said Tuesday it had filed an official note of protest to Russia following an incident involving Iranian lawmakers at a Moscow airport earlier this month.

TEHRAN, August 28 (RIA Novosti) - Iran's Foreign Ministry said Tuesday it had filed an official note of protest to Russia following an incident involving Iranian lawmakers at a Moscow airport earlier this month.

Despite the parliamentarians' immunity status, airport staff searched the lawmakers and their baggage on August 8, Iranian media earlier reported.

Iran's Foreign Ministry had previously handed a protest note to Russia's charge d'affaires in Iran, Alexei Dedov.

The document called behavior by staff at the airport "unsuitable for relations between the two countries."

Dedov voiced his regret over the incident, saying he would inform Russian authorities of Tehran's position.

A Russian Embassy representative in Tehran confirmed that a conversation had taken place between Dedov and the Islamic Republic's Foreign Ministry, but declined to divulge what had been said.

The Iranian lawmakers were in Moscow en route to Belarus for the Iran-Belarus Parliamentary Friendship Group.
