MOSCOW, August 23 (RIA Novosti) - The Ilyushin aircraft maker said Thursday it has signed a memorandum of intention to deliver 96 Il-family aircraft to the national airlines Open Sky and Continent for $1 billion.

Under the contract, Ilyushin Aviation Complex will supply 53 Il-114 passenger jets, 16 Il-114T and 27 Il-112T cargo planes. The first deliveries will begin in 2008, a source in the company said.

The Ilyushin design bureau launched the Il-114 turboprop aircraft for 64 passengers in 1986, and the plane was registered with the Russian aircraft registration body in April 1997.

Ilyushin Aviation Complex is one of Russia's oldest aircraft manufacturers. It produces a wide range of combat, passenger and cargo aircraft.
