MOSCOW, August 16 (RIA Novosti) - Two vast oil slicks have been discovered in the Moscow River in western Moscow near the construction site of the city's future business center, the environment ministry said Thursday.

"Preliminary reports from inspectors examining the area said the oil slicks are 200 meters [650 feet] long and three meters [10 feet] wide," the Federal Service for the Oversight of Natural Resources said. "The slicks are breaking up into smaller ones and moving downstream."

A week ago, the service said that water had become dirty and fish begun dying in the Krasnopresnenskye Ponds of Moscow, close to the construction site.

In late June, inspections revealed that construction companies had spilled unfiltered industrial sewage into the water collectors of Mosvodostok, the government agency responsible for wastewater management.
