MOSCOW, August 6 (RIA Novosti) - World number two Maria Sharapova from Russia won the Accura Classic tennis tournament in San Diego, California, for a second time, taking the 20-year-old's career tournament wins up to 16.

Sharapova, who has been plagued by a shoulder injury recently, defeated 11th seed Patty Schnyder in three sets 6:2, 3:6, 6:0 Sunday to take a slice of the $1.34 million prize fund.

Her tournament win will be excellent preparation for the upcoming U.S. Open tournament, which runs August 27 through September 9. In 2006 following her win at San Diego, Sharapova went on to win the U.S. Open.
