PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, August 5 (RIA Novosti) - One person has been killed and another injured after a blast hit a fishing vessel in a port in Russia's Far East, the regional emergencies department said Sunday.

The explosion occurred August 4 on board the medium-tonnage vessel, Utashud, owned by a Kamchatka company. The vessel was staying in the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky during the incident, the department said.

The reasons of the explosion are not yet known. The regional prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the incident.

"By now, the consequences of the explosion have been eliminated. The vessel poses no threat to the population of the capital of the Kamchatka Territory," the regional emergencies department said.
