MOSCOW, August 4 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Anna Chakvetadze and Elena Dementieva have reached the semifinals of the San Diego Classic after defeating Wimbledon champion Venus Williams and fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko respectively.
The third seeded Chakvetadze, who overcame Williams 6-7 7-6 6-2 in the quarterfinals Friday in her 12th straight victory in the U.S., will meet with last year's San Diego champion, top seeded Maria Sharapova, in the final.
Dementieva, seeded ninth, demolished Kirilenko 6-2 6-4 and will meet with Swiss 11th seed Patty Schnyder, who advanced to the semis defeating Russia's fourth seed Nadia Petrova.
