MOSCOW, August 1 (RIA Novosti) - The Moscow Arbitration Court upheld Wednesday the environmental regulator's decision to suspend the Ochakovo brewery's operations for several days in early July.

The Federal Service for the Oversight of Natural Resources closed the brewery for five days, saying the plant had contaminated a river in the west of Moscow. The brewery filed a suit with the court, claiming that the decision was illegal.

The environmental regulator also submitted a lawsuit to the court demanding the suspension of Ochakovo's operations for 90 days, saying the company had discharged untreated waste into a tributary of the Moscow River, a key source of the capital's water supply, in early July, causing environmental damage that would cost 2.75 million rubles (about $108,000) to rectify.

On Monday Moscow's Nikulinsky Court rejected the request by the environmental watchdog to suspend the activities of the Ochakovo brewery for 90 days, citing insufficient evidence.
