Spaniard wins 60 million euro jackpot, sets record

MADRID, July 19 (RIA Novosti) - A Spaniard who won 56.945 million euros ($78.7 million) will get the money July 20, local media said Thursday.

The anonymous winner from Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands, bought two tickets for the Euro Millions lottery, one of which won breaking the country's jackpot record.

The former record was set November 11, 2005 when a jackpot of 45.117 million euros ($62.4 million) was won.

Euro Millions is a European lottery that takes place weekly, on Friday nights. The first draw took place on February 13, 2004 in France, Spain, and the U.K. The highest jackpot, won by three people, is over 183 million euros ($252.9 million). The largest single winner was Delores McNamara who received 115.6 million euros (159.8 million).
