WASHINGTON, July 18 (RIA Novosti) - The U.S. Senate failed Wednesday to approve a bill (52-47) to pull out American troops from Iraq by April 2008, with 60 votes required for the Democratic resolution to go through to President George W. Bush.
The resolution was proposed by Sen. Carl Levin and got strong support from his fellow Democrats, notably Senate majority leader Harry Reid and three possible Democratic presidential candidates: Hillary R. Clinton, Barack H. Obama, and Joe Biden, who also serves as head of the Senate foreign relations committee.
