LONDON, July 1 (RIA Novosti) - The British police are linking the attack on Glasgow Airport with the car bombs found in London, the chief constable of the Strathclyde police said Sunday.

A fuel-filled jeep crashed into the entrance of the terminal at Glasgow Airport and burst into flames Saturday. Earlier, on Friday, the police thwarted a possible terrorist plot in London, in which two cars heavily loaded with fuel and nails were left in the center of the city and were ready to explode.

"There are clearly similarities and we confirm that [the Glasgow attack] is being treated as a terrorist incident," William Rae said.

Rae said four people had been held over the attacks: two of them were in the jeep that slammed into the Glasgow Airport terminal and the other two were arrested on the M6 motorway in Cheshire overnight.

After the attacks, Britain raised its terror alert to the highest 'critical' level. In a televised address, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown who took over from Tony Blair Wednesday urged the nation to be vigilant.
