WASHINGTON, June 20 (RIA Novosti) - The landing of the Atlantis space shuttle may be delayed by adverse weather, a spokesperson for Houston mission control said Wednesday.

Brandi Dean said that the shuttle, which has already left the International Space Station and was preparing to deorbit, may miss Thursday's landing window due to adverse weather above Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

She said there were two opportunities to land the shuttle on Friday. NASA also keeps a backup runway at Andrews AFB, Maryland, ready for touchdown if weather conditions in Florida do not improve.

However, she admitted the weather over Andrews was not favorable either.

She said if the weather above both sites did not improve on Friday, there would be additional attempts to land the shuttle on Saturday.

Dean said the crew had enough resources to stay in orbit safely until Sunday.
