TEHRAN, June 3 (RIA Novosti) - Iran will continue its nuclear program despite UN Security Council new possible sanctions against the Islamic Republic, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said Sunday.

Since Iran resumed uranium enrichment in January 2006, the country has been the focus of international concerns, as some Western countries, particularly the U.S., suspect Tehran is pursuing a covert weapons program. But Tehran has consistently claimed it needs nuclear power for civilian power generation and is fully entitled to its own nuclear program.

At the same time, Hosseini said Iran continued cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the agency's inspectors were carrying out checks of Iranian nuclear facilities.

"If the review of the Iran nuclear dossier returns to the IAEA, the Islamic Republic is prepared to reach an agreement on settling a few remaining problems with the agency in the coming weeks," Hosseini said.
