BISHKEK, May 30 (RIA Novosti) - An explosion has shaken a scientific and research institute in Osh, Kyrgyzstan's second-largest city, but no casualties were reported, a local Interior Ministry spokesman said Wednesday.
The spokesman denied earlier reports that the blast rocked an apartment block in Osh and said it occurred on the third floor of the institute, where about 100 companies rent premises.
He said law enforcement officials are investigating two versions of the incident, one being a gas canister explosion and the other a possible terrorist attack.
He added that the explosion completely destroyed an editorial office of the Ush Sadosi newspaper, which is published in the Uzbek language, but that no one was hurt as it was a lunch break and the office was empty.
