PETROPAVLOVSK KAMCHATSKY, May 15 (RIA Novosti) - A court in Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky fined the captain of a Japanese trawler, who was found guilty of poaching in mid-March, over $19,000 Tuesday, a prosecutor in Russia's Far Eastern region of Kamchatka said.

In early November 2006, the Tomi Maru 53 trawler was detained off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula with illegal catch - pollock, halibut, skate, cod - along with two other Japanese fishing vessels, Yokei Maru 5 and Gyokuryu Maru, which belong to Kanai Gyogyo, a company based in Japan's Hokkaido.

A court in Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky fined Kanai Gyogyo 2.9 million rubles ($112,360) last December. The Tomi Maru 53 trawler was confiscated, while the captains of the other two vessels were fined 250,000 rubles (almost $9,700) and over 1.1 million rubles ($42,619), respectively.
