MOSCOW, May 15 (RIA Novosti) - The main parties in Serbia's parliament agreed Tuesday to appoint the incumbent Vojislav Kostunica as head of a new government to be approved and sworn in by midnight Tuesday, Serbian news agency TANUG said.

Pro-Western President Boris Tadic's Democratic Party is expected to receive 12 portfolios in the 22-minister government, and the moderate nationalist Kostunica's Democratic Party of Serbia will get six under a coalition government agreement reached last week.

The posts of deputy prime minister and parliamentary speaker will also to go to Tadic's Democrats.

If Narodna Skupstina, the parliament, elected on January 21, fails to swear in the new government by the midnight deadline, the president will dissolve it and call an early election. But this appears unlikely, as Democrats hold an aggregate of 130 seats in parliament, more than the 126 needed to approve a government.
