MOSCOW, May 14 (RIA Novosti) - Russian truck maker Kamaz [RTS: KMAZ] said Monday its revenue, calculated to Russian Accounting Standards (RAS), increased 44% year-on-year in January-March to 18 billion rubles ($699 mln).

The company's gross profits in the reporting period was 2.9 bln rubles ($114 mln), a 71% rise year-on-year. Sale proceeds were 1.95 bln rubles ($76 mln), 120% growth compared to January-March 2006, and pre-tax profits grew 170% to 1.55 bln rubles ($60 mln).

It was earlier reported that Kamaz garnered 1.4 bln rubles ($55 mln) in net profits in the first quarter of the year, against 133 mln ($5 mln) in net losses in January-March 2006. The recovery was due to sales increases.

The truck maker's sales in the first quarter of 2007 grew 41% on the same period last year to 17 bln rubles ($645 mln). Kamaz sold 11,060 trucks and 13,290 engines in the reporting period (46% growth year-on-year), and spare parts worth 2 bln rubles ($81 mln), which was 29% growth.

Kamaz, which is based in the Volga Republic of Tatarstan, sold 46,200 trucks in 2006, or 34% more than in 2005. Earlier the company, whose heavy-duty trucks have won the Paris-Dakar rally on several occasions, said it planned to boost truck sales by 19.5% to 55,200 vehicles in 2007.

Founded in 1976, Kamaz is majority-owned by the State Property Committee (34.01%). The company produces more than 30 models of trucks, as well as trailers, buses, tractors and spare parts. It also manufactures engines, power units, and components.

The truck manufacturer has assembly facilities in Poland, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Ethiopia, Vietnam and Ukraine.

Kamaz's RAS net profits increased 440% year-on-year in 2006 to 721 mln rubles (about $28 mln).
