MAKHACHKALA, May 13 (RIA Novosti) - Three policemen have been wounded and a suspected militant killed in a security sweep in the Republic of Daghestan in Russia's troubled North Caucasus region, the local law-enforcement bodies said Sunday.
The police holed up militants, suspected of planning terrorist acts in the republic, in a building in Khasavyurt late Saturday. Gunfire erupted after the militants refused to surrender, the law-enforcement bodies said.
Fighting stopped overnight but restarted from a neighboring building Sunday morning. The militant's body was found after the police stormed the first building, the law-enforcement bodies said.
