WASHINGTON D.C., April 22 (RIA Novosti) - A pilot has died after a U.S. naval jet crashed at an air show in South Carolina, the press office of the U.S. Navy said Sunday.

An F/A-18A Hornet, assigned to the U.S. Navy Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron, crashed during the final minutes of an air show at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort April 21, the press office said.

"The pilot did not survive. The name of the pilot is being withheld pending the notification of the next-of-kin," the press office said.

The pilot of the jet was joining the Delta formation for the final maneuver when the incident occurred. It was his second year on the team and first year as a demonstration pilot, the press office said.

The other five Blue Angels jets were not involved in the incident and landed safely, the press office said.

An investigation is under way, the press office said.
