Russia has passed additional materials to the U.K. Home Office to assist in the extradition case of fugitive Russian businessman Boris Berezovsky, the Russian ambassador in London said Thursday.
LONDON, April 19 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has passed additional materials to the U.K. Home Office to assist in the extradition case of fugitive Russian businessman Boris Berezovsky, the Russian ambassador in London said Thursday.

The Prosecutor General's Office announced April 16 that they were seeking Berezovsky's extradition, following an interview he gave to The Guardian newspaper calling for a regime change in Russia.

"Today we passed some additional materials to them [British side], that we received from the prosecutor's office," Yury Fedotov said, adding that they were waiting for a response from the British, which they hoped "would be constructive."

The inquiry covers a new criminal case involving Berezovsky in sedition charges and in the alleged embezzlement of funds from Russia's flagship air carrier Aeroflot. The Russian Embassy in London said additional documentation covering the case was to be handed to U.K. authorities Thursday and Friday.

Berezovsky, who was granted political asylum in the U.K. in 2003, told The Guardian April 13, that he was bankrolling Kremlin insiders to forcibly overthrow President Vladimir Putin.
