MOSCOW, March 28 (RIA Novosti) - The growth rate of Russia's Gross Domestic Product could exceed the projected 6.2% in 2007, Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin said Wednesday.

"The start of the year suggests an optimistic forecast, higher than 6.2%," he said.

GDP grew by 8.4% in January and February this year, Kudrin said.

The minister said, however, that the government expected a slowdown in GDP growth in the next few years, owing mainly to a possible drop in world oil prices. The rate is predicted at 5.9% for 2008 and 2009, and at 6.1% in 2010, he said.
