KIEV, March 26 (RIA Novosti) - Rescuers have evacuated 608 of 634 miners from a mineshaft fire in East Ukraine, while the remaining 26 miners have remained belowground to help put the blaze out, Ukraine's Emergencies Ministry said Monday.

The ministry said earlier that fire broke out at 3:33 p.m. Moscow time [11:33 a.m. GMT] at the Dzerzhinsky mine, in the Lugansk Region, adding that 634 miners were working in the shaft at the time.

"No one was killed in the incident," a spokesman for the ministry said, adding that 404 miners were evacuated within an hour of the fire breaking out.

He added that 26 miners have remained behind in the mine and are helping firefighters and rescuers combat the flames.

In another accident earlier today, one miner was killed and another injured in the Zaporozhye Region when an ore mine caved in at a depth of 810 meters (2,400 feet).
