PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKI, February 25 (RIA Novosti) - Three alpinists went missing in the mountains on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East, the regional emergencies center said Sunday.

A group of six tourists from Moscow, Vladivostok and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski went to Eurasia's highest volcano, Klyuchevskoi, February 18 but instead decided to climb the nearby Mountain Kamen due to the volcano's increased activity.

Rescuers on Sunday received a signal that three alpinists went missing during descent February 24 at an altitude of 2,400 meters above the sea level in poor visibility conditions caused by a snow storm, the press office said.

The mountain climbers who sent a signal said they were staying in a cave near Mountain Erman, the press office said.

The emergencies ministry intends to dispatch a helicopter with rescuers on board February 26 to look for the missing alpinists during the daylight, given favorable weather conditions, the press office said.
