MOSCOW, February 13 (RIA Novosti) - Gazprom's [RTS: GAZP] net profit, calculated to International Financial Reporting Standards, was $17.6 billion in January-September 2006, rising 96.7% year-on-year, the Russian energy giant said Tuesday.

The company said in a news release that sales (net of excise, VAT and customs duties) increased 75% to $59.9 billion in the nine months ending September 30, compared to the same period in the previous year.

Net sales of natural gas rose 39% to $38.2 billion. This increase was primarily due to higher prices for gas exported to European countries and former Soviet republics, as well as higher volumes of gas sold.

Net sales of natural gas to Europe soared 42% to $22.9 billion on January-September 2005.
