MOSCOW, January 31 (RIA Novosti) - Mikhail Prokhorov, a co-owner of Interros, the holding company for the world's largest nickel producer, will quit the financial group's board of directors and sell his stake in Norilsk Nickel, Interros said in a statement Wednesday.

Prokhorov will sell his stake in the metals giant to another billionaire co-owner of the financial group, Vladimir Potanin, but will retain his shares in other Interros assets, and manage them through a new investment company, the statement said.

Earlier in the month, Prokhorov, ranked Russia's 10th richest man by Forbes, hit the headlines after being arrested in a ski resort in the French Alps for questioning in a prostitution scandal involving minors. The oligarch was later released without charge.

Prokhorov and Potanin, "intend to restructure the business of the Interros Group. Interros as a managing company will remain Potanin's property, and Prokhorov will quit its shareholding structure and will set up his own company to manage his assets," Interros said.

The group also said Potanin will buy out 27.4% of shares in Norilsk Nickel, the world's largest producer of nickel and platinum, from Prokhorov.

"As a result of the restructuring, shares in Norilsk Nickel will be bought out by Vladimir Potanin and will remain under control of Interros," the holding said in a statement.
