NOVOSIBIRSK, January 24 (RIA Novosti) - Several dozen people were stopped trying to break into an administration building following a protest rally in south Siberia Wednesday, the local press service said.

About 2,000 people took to the rally in central Barnaul, the capital of the Altai Territory, in protest against a hike in tariffs on public utility services.

Local police detained for questioning three of those who tried to make their way into the building, and no further incidents were reported.

Participants at the rally, which was organized by the Communists and two liberal parties - the Republican Party and Yabloko - adopted a resolution demanding that minimum wages, pensions and scholarships be raised to the minimum subsistence level, and that the government cap public utility costs at 10% of household incomes.
