CHISINAU, January 9 (RIA Novosti) - At least thirty people were killed and two injured Tuesday when a Moldovan-owned An-26 plane carrying Turkish workers crashed near the Iraqi capital, Turkey's Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

A Moldovan civil aviation official, Yury Zidu, said: "The plane carried out cargo and passenger transit in Iraq on orders from a Turkish company."

"We have no precise information on the fate of the crew and passengers. We hope we will know the true picture of what happened by the morning," he said.

The Antonov charter plane crashed while attempting to land at Balad, 50 miles north of Baghdad.

Turkish authorities told CNN-Turk television that there were 29 Turkish workers, three Moldovans, a Russian, a Ukrainian and an American on board. They said the crash was probably caused by bad weather.
