WARSAW, December 29 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian national who attempted to hijack a Russian passenger airliner, forcing the crew to land in the Czech Republic, has been charged with threatening in-flight security, a Czech police officer said Friday.

Allegedly drunk, 32-year-old Yevgeny Dogayev tried to break into the cockpit of the A-321 Airbus airliner operated by national carrier Aeroflot Airlines Thursday, claiming he had a bomb and demanding to be flown to Egypt.

The charge envisions from eight to 15 years in prison.

Aeroflot said the suspected hijacker, who was accompanied by eight family members, was subdued by stewards and passengers and handed over to Czech police upon landing.

The airliner, which was en route from Moscow to Geneva with 168 people onboard, declared an emergency and diverted to Prague's Ruzyne international airport, where passengers spent about 11 hours before the plane was allowed to resume its flight.
