MOSCOW, December 11 (RIA Novosti) - Six tremors have been registered over the past 24 hours in the Pacific Ocean near Russia's Kuril Islands, the emergencies ministry said Monday.
"Seismic activity has been registered near the Kuril Islands over the past 24 hours. Six tremors were reported in the Pacific Ocean," the ministry said.
The ministry said 262 tremors have been registered in the region since November 15. No injuries or damage to infrastructure has been reported.
The most powerful earthquake, measuring eight on the Richter scale, struck on November 15, 130 kilometers (80 miles) southeast of the Simushir Island in the central Kurils. A tsunami alert was announced, and more than 900 people were evacuated.
