MOSCOW, October 27 (RIA Novosti) - The Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow upheld Friday an amnesty for an architect blamed for the collapse of a water park in Moscow in 2004.

The roof of Transvaal Park, in southern Moscow, caved in February 14, 2004 in a heavy snowfall, leaving 28 people dead and more than 100 injured.

Moscow prosecutors said at the time that architect Nodar Kancheli's design was to blame for the accident, but charges were dropped in early September under the terms of a parliamentary amnesty.

In mid-September, a lawyer representing survivors of the tragedy filed a formal protest against the amnesty for the architect at the center of the tragedy, which was granted in connection with the 100th anniversary of the first parliament in Russia.

"I have lodged a complaint with Moscow's Zamoskvoretsky Court, in which I am asking that the city prosecutor's [September 5] amnesty for Kancheli, a co-defendant in the case, be annulled" lawyer Igor Trunov said.

The architect, who maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, was also questioned when another building he designed - Moscow's Basmanny market - collapsed in February, killing at least 60 people.
