MOSCOW, October 19 (RIA Novosti) - Fifty-two percent of respondents in a survey conducted by Russia's Public Opinion Fund said North Korea's possession of nuclear weapons poses a threat to national security, while 14% said it does not.

The UN Security Council on October 14 passed a resolution on North Korea following its underground nuclear test explosion, condemning the test and imposing arms and financial sanctions. Pyongyang said the resolution was tantamount to a declaration of war.

Almost two-thirds of respondents in the poll (64%) said they had a negative view of North Korea's nuclear test, but about the one-tenth (8%) praised the move; 18% of respondents said it made no difference to them.

More than half of those questioned (51%), backed the imposition of international sanctions, while 25% were against sanctions.

The poll was conducted October 14-15 and involved 1,500 people in 100 residential areas across Russia. The statistical error is below 3.6%.
