MOSCOW, October 17 (RIA Novosti) - One of Russia's leading aircraft engine producers, NPO Saturn, said Tuesday it was in talks with U.S. firm GE Energy on establishing a joint venture to produce industrial gas turbines.

"The sides are holding active talks on the establishment of a joint venture," NPO Saturn said in a news release.

The companies are considering basing production facilities in Russia to produce "GE industrial gas turbines with power of 40-150 megawatts, with the active participation of NPO Saturn. GE Energy is also considering investing in NPO Saturn subsidiaries for the production of industrial gas turbines," the statement said.

Saturn, based in Rybinsk in the central Russia's Yaroslavl Region, is one of Russia's largest designers and producers of aircraft engines and gas-turbine generators.

GE is one of the world's leading suppliers of power generation and energy delivery technology, with 2005 revenues approaching $16.5 billion. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, GE's Energy business provides equipment, services and management solutions across the power generation, oil and gas, distributed power and energy rental industries.
