MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) - The UN Security Council resolution proposed by Russia on Georgia, adopted unanimously Friday, reflected all the main Russian proposals on easing tensions in Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday.

The resolution urged the country to refrain from provocative actions in Abkhazia, and extended the mission of Russian peacekeepers and UN observers in Abkhazia until April 15, 2007.

"It is important that the UN Security Council has again confirmed the stabilizing role of Russian peacekeepers and UN observers, who are closely cooperating with our coalition forces and maintaining peace," the minister said.

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said he hailed the adoption of the resolution, which would help to maintain peace and stability in the conflict zone.
