World leaders wish Putin a happy 54th birthday

MOSCOW, October, 7 (RIA Novosti) - Leaders of a number of states and international organizations have sent birthday greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the presidential press service said Saturday.

"Numerous congratulations have come to the Russian president from heads of state, leaders of international organizations, and public figures," the press service said. "Many [world] leaders have congratulated Vladimir Putin by phone."

It said in a conversation with the president of Uzbekistan the two sides "expressed satisfaction with the ongoing development of bilateral relations and the constructive steps taken by both sides in the trade, economic, and humanitarian spheres of cooperation."

It said cooperation in the energy sphere was among the subjects that Putin discussed with Azerbaijan's President Ilkham Aliyev.

"The Russian president also received greetings from Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, and Ukrainian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych," the press service said.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Il also sent a birthday greeting to Vladimir Putin, according to the official Korean Central News Agency.

In a brief message, Kim wished Putin success in accomplishing Russia's socio-economic development, KCNA said.
