MOSCOW, October 5 (RIA Novosti) - The heads of Gazprom [RTS:GAZP] and the world's third largest electricity supplier, Italy's Enel, have met in Moscow to discuss transport and delivery of natural gas, the Russian energy giant said Thursday.

Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and Enel President Fulvio Conti "discussed future cooperation in the oil and gas sphere. In particular, they discussed the transport and delivery of Russian natural gas to Italy, both through existing transit routes, and in view of planned new transport capacity," Gazprom said in a news release.

Italy's natural gas market is the third largest in Europe after Germany and Great Britain, with total consumption of 84.28 billion cubic meters in 2005. The share of gas in the country's energy balance exceeds 30%.

In 2005, around 86% of gas consumed in Italy was imported. During the year, Gazprom supplied 21.7 billion cubic meters to the country.
