TBILISI, October 4 (RIA Novosti) - Georgian opposition parties held a protest rally Wednesday near the Russian Embassy in Tbilisi, calling on the two countries to normalize their relations, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.

Russia suspended postal and travel links with Georgia Monday after four Russian officers were charged in Tbilisi with espionage. They were later released but the row between the two countries continues.

Initially, the rally organizers planned to gather so many people that they would be able to cordon off the embassy building, but no more than 100 people showed up. No incidents were registered during the action.

On September 27, Georgian authorities detained five Russian servicemen. One was later released, and the remaining four charged with espionage and remanded in custody for two months.

Russia assessed Georgia's actions as a provocation. On Monday, after reports that Russia suspended transport and postal links with Georgia, the South Caucasus country's authorities handed over the detained officers to representatives of the Organization for Cooperation and Security in Europe, after which they returned home.

The head of the Georgian Railroads' transportation service confirmed that passenger travel between the two countries has been stopped, but said no restrictions have been imposed on cargo transportation from Russia to Georgia.

"As for cargo transportation, there are no problems here," Teimuraz Buliya said. "Cargo from Russia to Georgia, and then to Armenia, is moving normally."
