- Russia took silver, losing to Australia 74:91 in the final. Defending champions United States took bronze, beating Brazil 99:59 in the bronze-medal match

* At the Davis Cup tennis world group, Russia-U.S. semifinal in Moscow (ended September 24):

- Russia won 3-2 in the five-rubber match to take on Argentina in the final, set for December 1-3 in Moscow.
