MURMANSK, August 30 (RIA Novosti) - A Russian ship is heading for Norway to take part in a naval exercise with the United States, a representative of the Northern Fleet said Wednesday.
The Admiral Chabanenko, a Russian Udaloy II class destroyer from the Northern Fleet, left Plymouth in the United Kingdom, where it had taken part in five days of celebrations to mark Royal Navy Day.
"The [Admiral] Chabanenko is expected to call on the Norwegian port of Bergen September 4, where it will meet with a destroyer, the USS Barry," the Russian fleet said.
The Russian and U.S. vessels will join a combined naval exercise, Northern Eagle 2006, in the North and Norwegian seas.
The first U.S.-Russian exercise took place in 2004 and was designed to enhance security cooperation between the two navies.
The Northern Fleet said this year the exercise would focus on drills to counter terrorism at sea.
