Atomstroiexport, Russia's nuclear power equipment and service export monopoly, is building the first energy unit of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran under a $1 billion contract signed on August 25, 1992.
With the world waiting for Tehran's response to proposals made by six countries on suspending controversial nuclear programs, Mahmud Jannatian, deputy head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, and Ali Reza Moradian, head of the Bushehr project, are expected to hold talks with Atomstroiexport on specifying the earlier agreements and the schedule for the plant's launch.
Bushehr was originally to have been launched by the end of this year. But in July it was announced that Atomstroiexport and Iran had agreed a new schedule under which the nuclear plant will be put into operation in the second half of 2007.
Jannatian said the Iranian delegation, which will stay in Moscow until August 26, would also discuss nuclear fuel supplies to the Bushehr NPP.
The deputy head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran said an agreement on this issue had been concluded with Russia and the delegation intended to discuss nuclear fuel transportation.
Jannatian also said head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Golam Reza Agazade would visit Russia in September 2006.
