Russia's Foreign Ministry said Monday it has demanded that Kenyan authorities take extra measures to ensure the safety of Russian diplomats in the East African state following an attack on the ambassador.
MOSCOW, August 21 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Foreign Ministry said Monday it has demanded that Kenyan authorities take extra measures to ensure the safety of Russian diplomats in the East African state following an attack on the ambassador.

Russia's ambassador to Kenya, Valery Yegoshkin, was hospitalized in critical condition after two unidentified robbers stabbed him on a highway, Russian TV channel Rossiya said, citing a Russian embassy source.

The source said Yegoshkin was stabbed in the back and robbed after he stopped his car to avoid hitting a boy.

"We demanded that Kenyan authorities take every measure to identify and punish the attackers, and to ensure the security of the diplomatic mission and staff," said Andrei Krivtsov, a Foreign Ministry spokesman.

Krivtsov said the ambassador's condition had stabilized, and that his life was now out of danger.
