TEHRAN, August 13 (RIA Novosti) - Iran said Sunday the UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Lebanon was unbalanced.
The UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution Friday that calls for an end to the fighting between Israel and Hizbollah and demands the withdrawal of Israel troops from south Lebanon.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said the people and the government of Lebanon must make a decision and express their opinion under UN Security Council Resolution 1701 because the document related to them. But he added the resolution was unbalanced.
Asefi said a one-month delay in adopting the resolution on Lebanon had damaged the reputation of the UN Security Council.
Asefi also said Iran welcomed the ceasefire by the conflicting parties.
