MOSCOW, August 11 (RIA Novosti) - Vyacheslav Bykov, the coach of the CSKA Moscow, has been appointed the new head coach of Russia's hockey team.

The executive committee of the Russian Hockey Federation made the decision Friday to give the 46-year-old a two-year contract with an option for a third year depending on the team's success at major international tournaments, primarily the 2007 and 2008 world championships.

Bykov, a two-time Olympic champion whose playing career took him to three Russian clubs and two in Switzerland, will combine his coaching duties with the national team with his CSKA role.

He previously coached Lausanne and Fribourg in Switzerland before taking over at CSKA in 2004.
