TransTeleCom earnings rise 30% in 1H06

MOSCOW, August 7 (RIA Novosti) - TransTeleCom said Monday its earnings grew 30% year-on-year in the first half of 2006 to 6.03 billion rubles (about $223 million).

TransTeleCom, which was founded in 1997 to provide telecommunications services to Russian Railways, the country's railway monopoly, said revenues from the provision of communication services, which account for more than 70% of the company's revenues, rose 40% in the reporting period to 4.33 billion rubles (about $160 million).

TransTeleCom, which includes a parent company and 17 regional enterprises, posted a consolidated income of 6.67 billion rubles (about $247 million) in January-June 2006.

The company, solely owned by Russian Railways, operates the country's largest fiber-optic network, with more than 50,000 kilometers (31,000 miles) laid along Russia's railroads. It has more than 900 access outlets in 71 of Russia's 88 regions, and connects Europe and Asia.
