The UN Security Council should prepare a resolution on the Lebanese-Israeli conflict within the next few days, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday.
MOSCOW, August 4 (RIA Novosti) - The UN Security Council should prepare a resolution on the Lebanese-Israeli conflict within the next few days, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday.

Heavy fighting continues in southern Lebanon after three weeks of bloodshed in which more than 900 Lebanese people, largely civilians, have lost their lives. Around 70 Israelis have been killed, mainly servicemen.

"We want the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibility in the cause of global peace and security, and to reach a decision which will end the bloodshed and start a political settlement process for the Lebanese-Israeli conflict," the ministry said following talks with Saad Hariri, the leader of the Lebanese parliamentary majority.

The ministry said the UN Security Council was discussing a draft resolution proposed by France, but that discussions must be completed within the next few days.

Hariri, who met with Russian Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov, Andrei Denisov, first deputy foreign minister, and Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Saltanov, said after the talks that he appreciated Russia's position and efforts to restore peace, and that he hoped Moscow would continue its efforts to end the killings and destruction in Lebanon.
