Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko asked parliament Friday to approve the candidacy of Viktor Yanukovych for the post of prime minister.
KIEV, August 4 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko asked parliament Friday to approve the candidacy of Viktor Yanukovych for the post of prime minister.

"In accordance with the coalition's nomination, I submit the candidature of Viktor Yanukovych for the post of prime minister," Yushchenko told lawmakers in the Supreme Rada.

The president has also submitted the candidatures of Borys Tarasyuk for the post of foreign minister and Anatoliy Hrytsenko for the post of defense minister and asked the deputies to support his nominations.

Yanukovych told parliament, "I am ready to take on this responsibility, if you support me."

"We have prepared, together with the Our Ukraine bloc, the Socialist Party, the Communist Party, and the Party of Regions, our proposals on forming a new government. I am sure that this government will be formed," he said.

The pro-Russian Party of Regions, the Socialists, and the Communists which backed Yanukovych for the premiership, joined forces with pro-presidential Our Ukraine Thursday to form a "grand coalition" in parliament.
