United approaches of the six international mediators to the resolution of the Iranian nuclear problem are the most effective, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Sunday.
STRELNA (near St. Petersburg), July 16 (RIA Novosti) - United approaches of the six international mediators to the resolution of the Iranian nuclear problem are the most effective, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Sunday.

"We are satisfied that work in the six-nation format has started and it should be used to work out common approaches to [the Iranian problem] resolution," Putin told journalists.

The Russian leader said that the instead of toughening their positions on Iran, the international mediators should make their approaches uniform, which could "be the most effective solution to the Iranian nuclear problem."

The foreign ministers of Russia, the United States, China, the United Kingdom, Germany and France approved June 1 in Vienna a package of incentives for Iran to suspend work to enrich uranium. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the proposals embraced Iran's nuclear program, economic and trade cooperation, and security guarantees.

EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana handed over the proposals to Iran June 6, but Tehran has not responded yet.
