BISHKEK, July 14 (RIA Novosti) - Five militants from the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan have been killed in a special operation conducted by Kyrgyzstan's National Security Service officers in the south of the country, a law enforcement source said Friday.
The source said armed militants, suspected of involvement in an attack on policemen earlier this week in the city of Jalal-Abad that left one dead and three wounded, had been eliminated while trying to illegally cross the border between Kyrgyzstan and its Central Asian neighbor Uzbekistan.
The Interior Ministry, border guards and the National Security Service are combing the area for possible extremist accomplices. The source said Kalashnikov assault rifles, grenades and ammunition had already been confiscated from the area.
Some reports suggest policemen were wounded.
